THE MUSIC

In India the music, as well as painting and drama, is considered a Divine Art. The divinities of the Hindus have artistic connotations. Music history originates from at least two thousand years before the Christian era. We know by abundant literary sources that the inhabitants of India in the first millennium before Christ, sang songs during the religious ceremonies. The point where legend meets history is in the Vedas, the oldest scriptures in Sanskrit verses. The hymns of the Vedas were interpreted in melodies, or samanas, especially those from Sama Veda. These were collectively known as samagana, which are believed to be the root of the classical Indian music.

The ancient wise men discovered laws that harmonized man with nature through the sound. Since nature in an manifestation of OM, the First Sound or the Vibrating Word, man can acquire control over all the manifestation though the sound.

The music from India is subjective, spiritual. It is a sublime art that search for personal harmony with nature and universe. By being so rich in nuances and techniques, the music from India is the one that has made most impression in the West and what has left more vestiges. Philip Glass, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Olivers Messiaen, Oregon, Zubin Mehta, Yehudi Menuhim, Andrč Previn, Peter Gabriel, George Harrison and John McLaughlin are just some examples of this.
